René Crevel began his career as a draughtsman. Very early on he was noted for the quality of his drawings and illustrations. At the age of 19 he was given his first professional project, and continued using this skill throughout his life.
He produced advertising menus, eg for Bénédictine liqueur; catalogue and book covers, and posters (notably for tourism: Fécamp Casino 1912) ; and for the cinema (the film Le Désir, 1928)
