Our mission

René Crevel Committee

The René Crevel Committee aims to to make known and disseminate to the public the work of René Crevel (1892-1971), a painter, architect and decorator, an emblematic figure of the Art Deco movement, to contribute to enriching knowledge of the artist's work and career, and to share it.

Website

The aim of this website is to show the scope, scale and diversity of the work of René Crevel, who practised his art in many fields - painting, the decorative arts, architecture. It presents a large sample of works and provides archival documents that shed light on the artist's creative process and innovative approach, as well as his career.

Purpose

The Committee's mission is to reintroduce this significant figure to the art world, and to the diffusion of his work. In particular:

-help with research: communication of archives to students, art historians and researchers

-assistance with the organisation of exhibitions: communication of detailed information on the works, notices

-curating of exhibitions 

-Putting on line on the René Crevel website (under the heading News and Events) any information on a publication, an event, an exhibition related to the artist and his work.

Catalogue raisonné

The René Crevel Committee aims to list all the works of the artist - and to collate all documents relating to the works, for a catalogue raisonné.

Anyone who owns a painting, a drawing, a decorative panel, a stained glass window, a wallpaper, a fabric, a tapestry, a carpet, a ceramic (porcelain or enamel), a piece of furniture or any other object; a model of a decoration (wallpaper, fabric, carpet, ceramic) or of a piece of furniture; architectural plans or any other work by the artist is invited to contact us.

Archives

The Committee aims to compile all documents relating to the artist's life and work to reste a René Crevel archive. In order to establish detailed files: For each work we will compile all information: provenance, exhibition history, current collection, lists of references and reproductions in publications.

Concerning René Crevel's career, we will archive all contributions: correspondence, diaries, manuscripts, photographs, publications... Anyone with a document or information on the work and the artist is invited to contact us.

Opinion on works submitted and inclusion in the catalogue raisonné

With regard to the works submitted for appraisal, the Committee does not undertake expert appraisal, and consequently does not issue any certificate of authenticity. It does not estimate the value of a work. After studying the work, it may issue an opinion in the form of a recommendation for inclusion in the catalogue raisonné to the author in charge of preparing it.

In certain cases, it may acknowledge that it does not have sufficient information to make a decision, and thus may abstain from validation based on personal limits of knowledge. If you have a question about a particular work, please contact us with a full description and a picture of it.
